On Friday November 25th, the Winchester Community First Responder Team were delighted to celebrate the end of a year of fundraising on their behalf by the South Winchester Golf Club. The 2016 Club Captain, Malcolm Berryman and the 2016 Lady Captain, Caroline Summerfield adopted the South Central Ambulance Charity as their charity of the year and together they raised an amazing £15,400 for their local CFR team. Malcolm Berryman said: “We are really proud to have been able to raise so much money this year to save lives in the Winchester area – and it is testament to the great work done by our CFRs that our members were so generous in their support of the Captains’ charity this year”  .

This is the most money ever raised by South Winchester Golf Club Captains for their chosen charity. The fantastic support given by the club has funded 6 new medical kits for local CFRS and 5 replacement portable defibrillators. Peter Rockhill, local CFR scheme co-ordinator, said: “The new kit we have been able to buy thanks to the support of South Winchester Golf Club has made a dramatic difference to the number of life saving calls we can attend in the Winchester area, and we, on behalf of the local residents who will benefit , would like to say a huge thank you to Malcolm, Caroline and all the very generous members of the South Winchester Golf Club”.

Highlights of the year were a charity dinner and auction that raised £5000, the allocation of fees on Captains’ days to the charity, a series of raffles and a donation of a £1 for every ball that landed in the lake at the 18th hole! CFRs attended events at the club throughout the year – with new CFRS being presented with the kits paid for by the club on a number of big occasions, and CFRS giving talks and demonstrating some of their life saving skills.

The Winchester CFR team are now looking for new supporters for their fundraising for 2017. If you can help please email them at winchestercfr@sca-charity.org.uk.
