December saw the Bishop’s Waltham Community First Responders celebrate their 15th year of providing emergency medical cover for the residents of Bishop’s Waltham and surrounding district.

Past and present Responders gathered in King’s Church to commemorate this landmark and also express their thanks to David Williamson who established the group and who, after 15 years responding to emergencies on our patch, has decided to hang up his high viz jacket.

Keith Boyes, SCAS Head of Operations for North Hampshire, presented David with a certificate to record his achievement and recalled the difficulties in establishing early Responder groups. Even today, Responder groups are financed entirely by the generosity of local residents and fund raising groups. It’s a sobering thought to recall that during the past 15 years Bishop’s Waltham Responders have attended over 6,000 potentially life threatening emergencies.

Today we have 18 committed Responders, all trained by the Ambulance Service, who provide 24/7 emergency medical cover. If you would like to learn more about Responding in this area please contact Di McLean on 01489 891911
